HIT REPORT – Earth Sciences department
Last night, University of Cambridge Earth Science building had paint thrown over its doors because of its connections with the fossil fuel industry. Although some people in the department directly research the climate crisis, Earth Sciences continues to work with companies like BP, Shell and Schlumberger, including on technologies with direct application to oil and gas extraction.
The Earth Sciences department is so attached to the oil and gas industry that several of its senior academics recently spoke up IN FAVOUR of keeping uni-wide fossil fuel company ties, presumably so they can keep profiting from oil and gas research and greenwashing while the climate and ecosystems are in chaos around us.
If the climate scientists within the department aren’t willing or able to take a stand against working with planet killers, it’s up to us to push from outside.
