Activists glue locks shut at Barclays in Cambridge

Activists glued the locks shut at Barclays Bank in Cambridge early today. The branch couldn’t open until 1PM because of the disruption.

The group said: “We have closed this bank today. Barclays continues to finance fossil fuels, the genocide of Palestinians, and most recently banned trans women from using their toilets. Since 2015 it has invested $235.2 billion in the fossil fuel sector while we see global temperatures rising and destroying the planet. Barclays directly funds weapon production, helping murder people in Gaza, and has an agreement with Israel to act as a ‘primary dealer’ for its government bonds. It helps Israel to raise money to fund its genocide and apartheid against Palestinians. Recently after the Supreme Court ruling erasing trans women as women, Barclays officially banned trans women from using its toilets. Apologies to any customer who we may have inconvenienced. Maybe in the future you shouldn’t bank with Zionist, racist transphobes who destroy the planet.”

The group took action alongside Shut the System on the day of Barclay’s AGM. Read more:
